These pains you feel are messengers. Listen to them.

Philosophy and Approach

My foundation to counseling is a Humanistic or “person-centered” approach.  I believe that all humans have an innate wisdom and that it’s my role to help my clients discover their own path.  I have great respect for each person’s individual process and employ multiple techniques to facilitate that discovery, including mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, internal family systems therapy and emotionally focused therapy.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a research-based approach that’s primarily used to treat depression and anxiety. This approach helps clients become aware of unproductive or negative thought patterns and replace them with more positive and constructive thoughts that will lead to self-respecting behaviors.  I believe that our thoughts reflect the way we see ourselves and strongly affect our relationships with others.

Family systems states that we can’t fully understand an individual apart from their family.  Many of our challenges come from our emotional wounds from the past. My goal is to not linger in these moments, but rather explore their meaning and help the client discover a new relationship with these wounds.

Internal family systems asserts that individuals have sub-personalities or parts of themselves that are wounded with painful emotions and parts that try to control, protect and manage the pain.  The therapy works to heal the wounded parts and help the wise, compassionate, and core Self lead.

Emotionally focused therapy helps people better understand their emotional responses and those of significant people in their lives. With this understanding, people feel more connected and relationships improve. I integrate an emotionally focused approach into my practice because I believe that healthy relationships are fundamental to a person’s emotional well-being.

I’m a warm, empathetic, and genuine therapist that sees great potential in all my clients.  My goal is to help people accept their whole being so that their best selves can foster positive relationships and create a life of joy and purpose.
